Painted Ceiling Tiles
A study in Art History
8th Grade Art
Essential Questions:
- What criteria should make an artist famous?
- How do one's experiences influence artwork?
- How does an artist's representation of subject matter influence their style?
- How do artists from different eras present similar themes?
Task:
Artists used different artistic styles to express originality and creativity in their artwork. You have been commissioned TMS teachers to create a painted ceiling tile in the fashion of a chosen artist. You will work alone or with a partner to create a new painting with a focus on your artist’s style within the elements of art and principles of design. MCL
You may work alone or with a partner.
This project has 2 components:
1. The multimedia presentation 2. The painted ceiling tile

How to choose an artist and research:
- Pick a topic you are interested in.
- Search artists with a similar subject matter, look at art work, read biography, etc until you find someone who peaks your interest.
- Find a painting by that artist that inspires you and that you find magnificent! Hint: This will be the painting that you reference for your own painting
- Begin your research by filling out the answers to your multimedia presentation questions.
- Create a Google folder on your drive and save images/paintings/information/etc from that artist for your presentation.
- Choose a presentation format.
- Begin putting together your presentation using all of the resources you have gathered.
